MY REVIEW:
I am a big fan of speculative fiction (fantasy) and I have anticipated this book for quite awhile. I was thrilled that it was finally coming out! I sat down to enjoy a new fresh take on fantasy and was so happy that F.A.I.R.I.E.S. does not disappoint. I can't even imagine what it takes to develop an entire world with real things, actual fantastical creatures and maybe even some new, original creatures. Putting it all together with a captivating storyline and you have a winner.

I had only 2 minor things with the book that struck me as a little odd. 1) Mellie, the human character, is 12 (turning 13) when the book starts yet I'm not sure why she is so young and she is developing a boyfriend/girlfriend relationship with a fantastical being. It really seemed to me that if there was going to be a relationship like that she could have been 16 or 17. I just felt a little awkward reading about Mellie and Spike kissing... she is 12... 2) There are a lot of original illustrations in the book which is really cool. But the illustrations were drawn over years and years so the look of the characters changes quite a bit. Not a bad thing, but not real consistent. I think if they had been drawn over a few months (instead of years) it might have made them a little more in keeping with each other. Very original though. Overall this book hits a home run in the fantasy world!

I must admit I had a hard time taking this story seriously. But it held my interest well, and I really enjoyed it.
This was a great story with a very good plot and some awesome characters. I am very excited that there will be another book in this series; I can't wait to read it.
There is a lot of good potential in this book but it is a bit long-winded perhaps for its intended audience age. Coming of age plus fantasy. A book for younger girls.
I will have to preface this review by saying that I am 74 years old, and am not a fan of fantasy or science fiction, but I love a good plot. This story is captivating! The imaginative characters become friends (or enemies) as the plot unwinds, and then the book closes with a memorable finish. Highly recommeded even for us members of the slightly-older generation. *****
I really enjoyed reading this book, and I think that adults as well as children would enjoy this fantasy book. The characters were well thought out and developed with personalities that made them seem realistic. The book is not too frightening for children to read as some of the other fantasy books . I realize that it is written with the younger reader in mind, but I enjoyed it as well..
This author writes for the Lord in the the disguise of an enthralling fantasy story anyone of any age would love. I’ll have my kids read it. It’s very uplifting!
I am a 50-something grandmother who reads a wide variety of books. As I began to read this book, I was not thinking of my grandsons. However by the time I completed it, I was sure my 10-year-old grandson would like it. I enjoyed this book as an adult, but I feel the target audience is 10-14 year olds. The heroine is soon to turn 13. She is beginning to like a boy she meets in the story. I liked the wide representation of creatures, the motif of loving all of them without prejudice, fighting for what is right, and recognizing that we have flaws which need to be improved upon but which don't make us less loved by the One. Lots of scripture presented in a non-scriptural way. I am looking forward to the next book in the series.
