I would actually give this book 4 1/2 stars. It is a duo of stories. The first story by Shelly Laurenston, Like a Wolf With a Bone, is a solid 5. It is a prequel to her Pride Series. It tells the tale of Darla and Eggie.

Eggie sees Darla and thinks she's cute but he hasn't got time for women. He makes the time as she needs assistance. From then on, he's determined to protect her. Darla thinks Eggie is the nicest man. She doesn't mind his scowling, grunting, or killing for a living. Their courtship is humorous and tender. The supporting cast is so much fun.

The second tale by Cynthia Eden, Wed or Dead, is action packed. Gage and Kayla marry under false pretenses. Their honeymoon begins a journey of discovery if Kayla's past and the reality of their present. The learn that they must fight together and for each other to survive. I give this a weak 4.

Now is the real story of Egbert Ray finally out. This is one of the best pack stories ever. There are dimples, virginity, pies, steamy sex, racing, and crime. This book has it all, did I say steamy sex? The dialogue is snappy and laugh provoking. The characters are full bodied and truly believable. You can't miss with this one!
The second story felt rushed in places, then it stalled in others. Some action is gritty, and the leading emotion seems to be revenge. There is much room for improvement, but I think the work is promising. You decide.
I absolutely love Dee-Ann and here we get the story about her parents Darla Mae Smith and Eggie Ray Smith.

Eggie is on "vacation" from the military when he lays eyes on Darla Mae. Darla Mae is on vacation from her job as a pastry chef in on of the Van Holz restaurants in San Francisco, when the most feared wolf in their world saves her life. 

As usual the author makes you laugh out loud. I highly recommend this short story as well as Shelly Laurenston/G.A. Aikens other work.
My review is purely for the first book by Shelly Laurenston. It was such a great read. Never have I read a love story so clearly from the 60s written so well. The author really describes the characters well. You got hippie heroine and military man. Those two could not be more opposites during that time period. Heroine had free love and peace for everyone going. Hero was a true introvert military man doing dirty things that nobody understood he did to protect them all and was thankless. They way they treated him was shameful for someone that did so much to protect the freedom of everyone and keep everyone safe. I am so glad heroine saw him for a great man he was.

I can't say how much I loved the dialogue between the couple. It was hilarious. There was also some serious and touching moments, but everything was so good all together. The love scenes were steamy. The crazy family they both had added so much entertainment to the read. It is a must read for anyone that may enjoy reading hippie love story (heroine), 60s period background, unique shifter underworld, and groovy love story. Safe read. Hero was heroine's first, but she was a hippie that hiked as mode transportation so I know she knew stuff;) I loved it.

I wish author would write love story for the daughter. The epilogue was so good!!! I loved it!!!!

I’m so glad they are re-releasing this book. I read it in 2012, and this reminded me how much I liked it. Shelly Laurenston’s “Like a Wolf with A Bone” is such a fun story about Eggie and Darla. The scene and personalities are set right from the beginning, taking me along for the sexy and romantic ride. If you’ve read the Pride series, this is a fun story about the infamous Eggie. If you haven’t read the series, it’s a perfect novella to get you hooked. The humor made me giggle, the romance made me swoon, and the drama made me excited. I love her shifter books! Cynthia Eden’s “Wed or Dead” Is more dramatic. This short story is about Kayla and Gage, human and shifter, trying to find common ground through their burning lust. A Suspenseful drama full of hot sex. It’s a hard segue from the first novella to the second, but I was able to shift gears. I enjoyed them both!
