This little book is intended to serve as an elementary introduction to the study of Egyptian Literature. Its object is to present a short series of specimens of Egyptian compositions, which represent all the great periods of literary activity in Egypt under the Pharaohs, to all who are interested in the study of the mental development of ancient nations. It is not addressed to the Egyptological specialist, to whom, as a matter of course, its contents are well known, and therefore its pages are not loaded with elaborate notes and copious references. It represents, I believe, the first attempt made to place before the public a summary of the principal contents of Egyptian Literature in a handy and popular form.

The Literature of the Ancient Egyptians Illustrated edition by Sir E A Wallis Budge Literature Fiction eBooks

It was apparent 8 pages in that the writer didn't really analyze ancient Egyptian culture in a way that was objective or capable of true contemplation of the times of which he was speaking. He speaks of the Egyptians as primitive but states that people of his time can't fully understand every word in the text. He mentions that the literature in question was during the dynastic period that he even states was of an ancient culture that was thousands of years older than the starting place of which Egyptian literature was put down in writing. There is no question into the introduction as to why writing started to form during this period and he based the beliefs of the Egyptians as presented to the beliefs of the dynastic Egyptians who for all we knew, we're the dying remnants of a much more advanced civilization that gradually lost the true meaning of their teachings and implemented writing to save what they could of the wisdom they tried so very hard to maintain. Add that to Sit E A Wallis' barely concealed ineptitude to truly understand any semblance of enlightened knowledge of Ancient Egypt, let alone it's literature, and it is no wonder that we are completely devoid of higher thinking and lack any real interest in humanity's roots of origin.

Good
THANK YOU!
Ebook
Might be dry reading for modern audiences, but an excellent resource for those who want to learn how ancient Egyptians worded various rites, incantations, heroic tales, etc. Also, this book originally came out in 1916, and while it is still good, it might behoove the reader to broaden their search for more modern material.
