This was my first Craig book. I was a bit conflicted about the start of the story. I'm pretty die-hard when it comes to romance. Certain rules apply and the first is the H/H can't be involved with someone else when they make their moves on each other. They're unsympathetic to me, and frankly, cheaters shouldn't come out ahead. So I initially didn't like Joe, Katie or Carl for these reasons. In fact I almost tossed the book because of that. It's not romantic to make a move on another person when you or they are involved. But I stayed with it for some reason and ended up ok with the overall plot. The characters aren't deep but there are enough scenes that tickled my funny bone that I liked the book enough to finish. In truth though I didn't feel like the author built a strong enough relationship between Carl and Katie to last a lifetime. I can easily see them divorced and fighting over the sissy dogs in a few years. I couldn't keep the suspects straight to know or care about who the murderer was. I started rocking every time the word rock was used.

I had to laugh at another commenter who thought the book was too spicy. LOL. The book is tame to me but if you're easily offended by the f-word then don't read. Other than that, there's not a high level of sexuality. Some good tension at times - you can feel the lust between the couples at times.

Weddings Can Be Murder Christie Craig 9780505527318 Books Reviews

Katie is so in love with Joe and they are getting married in two weeks. She can't wait for her best friend, Les to meet him. She knows Les is just going to love her fiancé. But Les has some serious misgivings about Katie getting married to Joe. Something just doesn't seem quite right. Starting with the fact that Katie's nervous stomach has her throwing up every time she even thinks about the wedding or Joe.

Tabitha the wedding planner calls Carl Hades, PI, to engage his services. There is a problem with the brides she's working with. They have been disappearing and Tabitha fears there's been foul play. Can he meet with her this afternoon?

Les meets an incredible man at the restaurant bar while she is waiting for Katie to show up. He has this incredible wow factor that she hasn't felt since her fiancé, Mike, died the year before. She can't wait to tell Katie about this mysterious stranger.

Through no fault of their own, Carl and Katie are forced to spend the night together in a locked room in Tabitha's home. Carl has just escaped the clutches of one red head, he doesn't need to be stuck with another one, especially one who has a nervous stomach! He has secrets that he doesn't want this hot lady to learn, but somehow they come out. This macho PI owns a poodle by the name of Precious!

Tabitha changed all of the wedding plans without first consulting Katie. Why was she changing the cake baker, photographer, and florist? Tabitha is adamant about these changes and refuses to back down. There must be some reason, but Katie has no idea what it could be.

All Katie knows is that she can't marry Joe and after one incredible evening with Carl, he no longer wants her. He's shipping her off to stay with his dad, who will keep her in protective custody, because she's next on the killer's list!

I particularly liked this book because it showed some of the chaos involved in weddings and how crazy things can be when last minute changes happen. It had a lot of plot complications and twists and turns, but they were all good. I loved that Katie kept getting Carl and his brother Ben confused, it added that comic relief that was much needed when things started getting too intense. I could even relate to the Les/ Joe situation, had something very similar to that happen to me! In the end, everything works out as it should. I look forward to reading more by Ms Craig in the future.
Katie Ray was engaged to Joe, but their wedding planner was murdered. Katie and Carl, a private investigator were locked in a room by the murderer at the murder scene. Katie's BFF Les fell for a guy at a bar...who happened to be Joe. Meanwhile, the bungling murderer chased after the wrong bride. Murderous mayhem ensued. I enjoyed many of the subplots and vignettes scenes of a demented grandmother Mimi streaking in her birthday suit were hilarious, as were some of the poodle scenes. The dishwashing scene (and getting busted) was original and fresh, as was the use of the pumpkin tablecloth dress as a sex deterrent, a case of mistaken butt identity, and the sympathy puker scenes all had me laughing.

But there were just too many inadequate descriptions with weak verbs and nouns, and repetitive physical character descriptions were tiresome. It's bad enough that the protagonist, Katie Ray was a nervous puker, but 25 repetitions of her family adage "she was a Ray and the Rays don't..." do this, or do that... was a downright annoying storyline crutch.

I think I've just found my all-time favorite comedic typo "The dick of a knob filled the silence..."; there were a few other sticky wickets too.

If you're offended by foul language, steer clear of this one. Like with the somewhat contrived sex scenes, the gratuitous swearing seemed formulaic and repetitive. Not exactly character development. What, after 100 usages of f and d words, the author couldn't think of another word for sex? There was even a doggy scene. Bleagh. It felt like the author was trying too hard to be edgy and relevant, which made it all seem so teenybopperish. Brady Bunch references date this story. (FWIW, a similar draft of this review was censored by . And I didn't even swear. LOL.)

Contemporary romance? Meh. Glad it was free. Not quite sure how Christie Craig got promoted to a New York Times bestselling author. Definitely NOT on my must-read list.
