Black Lies Red Blood A Mystery Ann Lindell Mysteries Kjell Eriksson Paul Norlen 9780312605049 Books
This appears to be the fifth book in a series written by Kjell Eriksson, following a homicide detective, Ann Lindell, in Uppsala, Sweden. She has a young son and not much has been known about her personal life. As the book opens we learn about a new lover, Anders Brant. It seems Anne has fallen for this man, and it is quite unlike her. As they leave her bed, he tells her he needs to be away for several weeks, with no other information. With this man on her mind, she goes to work and hears about a new murder of a homeless man. She is also involved in a case of a disappearance of teenager Klara Lovisa several months ago. At the same time, she learns that a phone number found at the scene of the homeless man's murder is her new man, Anders Brant. Thoughts of Brant provide Ann a respite during her search, but with him missing and the phone number, she is quite worried. Ann has not shared any details of her new relationship with her colleagues. She buries herself in work, and tries to find clues to help her with the missing girl and that leads to working on the murder of the homeless man.
This book is fine for a procedural/mystery, but it is not one I will follow. It is too complicated, and I am not a fan of the protagonist, Ann Lindell. However, coming in on the fifth book of the series may be the problem. I will give it the benefit of the doubt.

Black Lies Red Blood A Mystery Ann Lindell Mysteries Kjell Eriksson Paul Norlen 9780312605049 Books Reviews
well-written but i'm getting bored with the characters and their not-really-evolving problems. "Too many notes, Herr Mozart" or something like that.
A good story from Kjell Ericksson but I thought the ending was a bit disappointing compared with some of his other books I have read. Having said that, it did have a realistic style and showed inspector Ann Lindell to be very vulnerable human being.
Haven’t read yet but I liked his other books
I agree with other reviewers who note it's a bit disjointed in its story lines but I still enjoy this author very much.
I have read all the Ann Lindell books and looked forward to this but Black Lies, Red Blood is a disappointment. Ann is made too needy for the loss of a heavy relationship of a few weeks with Anders Brant, who is a murder suspect and unreachable in Brazil where he is doing some research for his journalism and putting an end to a relationship with a Brazilian woman who loved him. I think the best writing in the book is in Anders' reflections on Brazil, its faults and its beauty, the haves and have nots of its people. Until you get to the climax with its violence and denouement, the book seems sometimes to lean more heavily on sexual relationships than on solving crime. Of course the disappearances of young women raped and murdered, not the major crime but one Ann keeps trying doggedly to solve, is sexual too, but it is hard to see Ann failing apart so badly-- to me not entirely believable, not the way i expected this character to go.
One of the biggest elements of the story is the lead detective (Ann L)'s inability to deal with the disappearance --and possible rejection, O horrors--of her new boyfriend. It would be hard to imagine a male detective calling apart over some woman, first of all. Secondly, all the drama around our her personal life just got in the way of an otherwise excellent story!
After reading the reviews for the fifth book in this series I was somewhat hesitant to purchase it on my . But in the end my satisfactory experiences with Ericksson's previous four offerings won out, and I made the transaction.
I'm glad I ignored the reviews...no offense intended to those who dismissed this book as "not as good as...etc." I have now read 30% of it without coming up for air, and I whole-heartedly disagree with that analysis. This is classic Ericksson at his best, easily on par with the rest of the series, and definitely worth the purchase. It is not a romance novel, it contains romantic elements. Not sure what unwritten rule was broken by the author in weaving some romance into the overall tapestry.
Looking forward to the rest of this story, but frankly I felt compelled to defend it before reading another word.
Can't wait for #6, phlegmatic reviewers be damned.
Very much looking forward to #6 in the series
